Quick Thoughts 6-20-2008

First off, big-time kudos to IMPD for catching the Huntington Bank robbery suspects, one of whom shot a woman, pregnant with twins, in the abdomen. This was great news and I hope our local law enforcement officers are proud of this accomplishment. For what it is worth, I spoke with an IMPD officer today and he said things are "100 times better" under Mayor Ballard than the environment they had before.

For the all of the flack Jon Elrod is taking for switching gears and going after his Statehouse seat instead of trying to go up against the Obama/Carson machine as a Republican in the 7th District, whether or not it could have been handled better, he probably made a wise choice. I wish him the best and support his "repeal property taxes" stance completely.

About the 17 pregnant high school girls in Gloucester. Anyone else find it curious that this is coming about just months after the movie Juno (which I have not seen, but which I understand features an expecting teen as the central figure and came out around December 2007) and the news, again around December of 2007 regarding Jamie Lynn Spears who starred in the popular tween/teen TV show "Zoey 101" ?? I've not heard anyone else make the connection to Juno, but I am wondering what the due dates are for the girls.

I continue to be shocked at how little the Democratic Party is hiding their Socialist/Communist tendencies lately. Suggestions that some were interested in trying to nationalize oil refineries was about the most un-American thing I've heard in some time. I urge everyone to read a book called "The Commanding Heights" or watch the great PBS program based on the book (Netflix has it). Why did we waste so much time and money fighting against the feared Communists if we're just going to vote them into office here in America? And when our country goes down the tubes ... don't try and leave (see next item)

BEWARE HR 3056! They tax you if you stay here. They tax you when you die. Now they want to tax you if you try to get away. How bad do our leaders think things could get if they now fear attempts to move yourself and your assets out of America to avoid confiscation? So, they'll pass a law to stop that too. Who ever thought America would be the place you needed to flee from to preserve your wealth? Used to be, you came here to create it. Unreal.
